Suzanne Clifford Clark
Suzanne
graduated from Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, in 1975 with a
Bachelor of Arts. She also attended the Julian Ashton School of Art in
Sydney N.S.W. Australia, The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, The Milwaukee
Institute of Art and Design, and the School of Classical Realism under
Atelier Prohl.
While
growing up, Suzanne lived in Kingston, Jamaica; Lima, Peru; Bogota, Colombia;
and Sydney, Australia. Her family's frequent relocation allowed her to
travel extensively throughout Europe and the Far East. This gave her the
opportunity to see and study the work of great masters in such places
as the Louvre, the Uffizi, the National Gallery in London and the Prado.
This early exposure to such a wide range of art influenced the approach
she took to her own work. She strives not to emulate the past but to synthesize
the technical means of classical art with more modern concerns.
